My Top Ten Fonts...

9) I do like this typeface a lot if it wasn’t for the leaves and stems added to them. I think they could look a lot better if they were smaller or if the typeface was a lot bigger than the leaves. I think it’s not very useable because it has a particular niche.

8)
I really do like this typeface with it being quite hand rendered like. However I think its really hard to read some of the letters but it still looks really effective and I could imagine a lot of people to like this font as it could be used quite a lot.

7)I think this typeface is very complex but still legible from any distance. I think when the font is blown up to a bigger size it looks a lot better than just the simple small font. I think it is very useable as its smart, stylish and sophisticated.

6)
I really do like the freebooter script and I think if it were just a little bit more legible it would be a lot higher in my top 10 fonts.  I don’t think it’s a very useable typeface with it being a little bit over the top but once again I think used at the correct time it could really we a success.

5)
I love this typeface because of the complexity inside of the font and how the letters are still very easy to read with them being so bold. I think the typeface isn’t really useable in normal everyday designs but I think it could be used with a lot of success at the correct time.

I love how light this typeface is and I think it would be very useable on a black background and then the typeface as if it’s cut out of the page in white. I think the typeface is very well put together and the kerning is very affective.

3)
I love the simplicity of the typeface and I think the font works at its best when using the letters that join together with the centre line: i.e. A, E, F and H. I think the typeface is rather useable but because it only comes in uppercase letters I would have to consider what and when I would use it.

2) Plaza – Coming a close second in my favourite typefaces plaza is a really nice font the currently looks very modern and professional keeping everything neat and fresh. I think this typeface is quite useable because of the clean tight shapes that create the letters help to keep everything tied together.

1 My favourite current font has to be champagne & limousines. I really like this typeface because of the simplicity in the design and the exact spacing in between each letter so no ‘kerning’ or ‘leading’ is normally needed. I think this font can be used for a lot of different styles of work and I think it always seems to work well with a complex design to keep the whole thing simple.

This is my entry for the 'Penguin Design Award'. I decided from the beginning of the project to create a mixed media piece for the book 100 years of solitude. Im not entirely sure why I chose a mixed media piece but I think by reading the book it came across at so many different levels that I chose the route to have different layers. I used a very simple technique on the left hand side of the illustration using only a line drawing and not removing the fine liner from the page. On the right of the illustration I chose to use another simple technique and dabbed ink onto the page and then using an art straw blew the ink around the page to create some form of tree. I combined the two of them on photoshop adding and subtracting different parts so they merged in together well. I then added the typography to fit with the illustration. The typeface I chose to use is called Champaign and Limousines. I think it really works well because of the simplicity of it mixed with the complex illustration really ties it all in together.
